General Mills visits Summer Program

It was a cheeri-o moment for visiting speaker Alex Merritt of General Mills - the second speaker of the PRO Speaker Series to address the Youth In Action Summer Program sponsored by People Reaching Out, City of Sacramento - Youth & Family Services Program and Kaiser Permanente. Alex, an engineer at the General Mills - Lodi packaging plant spent an engaging afternoon with her young consumers developing how-to plans for achievement and success of their individual goals and aspirations while educating them on the numerous career paths in engineering. Enthusiastic and eager to know everything there was to learn about cereal recipies, packaging and design. .  . the big "o" moment came in one statement by a 13-year old participant, ". . .General Mills advertises that eating Cheerios reduces your cholesterol. . . how can you make cookies that don't!" By the end of the day, an enlightened and intrigued group was on their way home with a gift box of the General Mills cereal of their choice and many new thoughts about the type of engineer they can become.
